Six Ad Tricks You Should Know

|
Call it Advertising 101
These are five of the most important things
we’ve learned about advertising over the span of our extensive careers.
Actually, these can also apply to just about every aspect of life.
-
Keep it simple. Don’t try to do too much at once, or you risk losing your audience. And the money you’ve spent trying to reach them.
-
Keep it focused. One idea to catch attention, combined with compelling copy to build interest and desire, and finally, a call to action.
-
Know your target audience and “speak” accordingly.
After all, you wouldn’t try to sell to a teenager the same way you
would a senior citizen. Copywriters establish the right voice for the
audience.
-
Tell people what you want them to do. Do you want them to visit your website? Visit your location? Register to win? Tell them.
-
Be honest.
Don’t promise things you can’t deliver. Good or bad – don’t
underestimate how much people talk about their experiences. Damaged
expectations are the quickest way to destroy your brand, your business
and your reputation. Strive to exceed expectations. Always.
OK. Of course there’s more to creating great advertising that sells
besides these five points. A lot more. But you’d be surprised how often
everything comes down to these basic principles. And there’s one more
we’d like to add. A bonus by one of advertising’s most respected admen
ever, David Ogilvy.
